Character name: Jake Muller
Character Journal(s):
abandonedlegacy
Canon: Resident Evil
Point of Origin: Post RE6
Appearance:

Jake is a twenty year old hard ass. That is to say, by appearance alone it seems he’s been through a lot. His face is worn, a large jagged scar running the length of his left cheek. He keeps his hair short, shaved close to his head, though you can detect the hint of ginger tint if you look close enough. Jake’s tall, easily standing at six feet and a bare few inches. He’s muscular under his clothing, all leathe and lethal sinew--it comes with being a skilled hand-to-hand combatant. He tends to keep his clothing light and comfortable, and he can currently be found in a dark cotton shirt, jeans, and suspenders.

Background:
[While Jake's wiki can be found here, it is missing a lot of detail with his history. In fact Sherry Birkin's wiki has some more detail than Jake's. Therefore I have written his history below.]
The first thing to be known about Jake Muller is that he is also, by all technicalities, Jake Wesker. He was born the illegitimate son of the late bioterrorist Albert Wesker--a man he never knew, as he abandoned Jake and his mother. Without a father figure, and with a sickly mother, Jake found himself work as a mercenary in order to support himself and his mother. However, nowadays the money is just for his own needs since his mother passed from her illness.
It isn’t until Christmas Eve of 2012 that Jake’s heritage comes into play, and he finds himself the target and main interest of several groups due to his blood having the potential to play a very crucial role in the war on bioterrorism. At this time, he was working with the Edonian Liberation Army during a civil war in the nation.
Earlier that evening, a woman had approached Jake and his team with a supply of syringes and claimed that they held an energy booster that would increase and improve their performance. In reality, the injections were laced with strains of a new bioweapon, the C-Virus. While his team mutated from the injection, Jake saw no side-effect due to his blood containing the antibodies for the C-Virus. It is just after defeating one of his mutated team members with his bare hands that Jake first meets one Sherry Birkin. This initial meeting doesn’t last long, however, as the rest of the mutated team members come storming around the corner and Jake and Sherry are forced to escape through a garbage chute.
When the pair finally get the chance to introduce themselves, Jake makes an assumption that Sherry wanted to hire him as some sort of protection (though the exact opposite is true--Sherry was sent to protect him). He offers his services for $40,000--an offer that causes Sherry to step back and finally explain what she needed from him. His blood. Jake seems confused by this, but after a moment of consideration agrees--but only if his new price of $50,000,000 can be met, and that’s for only one pint of blood. With little choice, Sherry agrees to try and arrange it for him.
Of course, such an arrangement can’t be so easily concluded and it’s discovered that Jake is being pursued by a Bio-Organic Weapon (BOW) known as the Ustanak. The pair manage to escape the beast several times, only to be pursued in the air via helicopter (a transport arranged by BSAA agent Chris Redfield). This confrontation ultimately ends with their transport careening into a mountain side. When Jake comes to, he finds Sherry face down in the snow with a large scrap of metal protruding from her back. At a loss of what to do, he is forced to comply with Sherry’s plea for him to remove the debris despite the fact he believes doing so will kill her. To his surprise, the wound begins to heal on it’s own and is gone in a matter of minutes. An explanation for Sherry’s superhuman ability comes later when the pair come to a cabin where they plan with wait out the blizzard their crash landing had put them in. This is the first time the two are able to really talk, and Sherry reveals her past experiences with bioterrorism in Raccoon City at the cost of her parents.
As always, the down time in the cabin doesn’t last long, as a group of J’avos (infected men) swarm the cabin, and the pair must make an escape via snowmobile as the mountainside becomes the scene of an avalanche. This escape leads to Jake and Sherry finding themselves in an ice cavern--with the Ustanak serving as a guard. After much skulking about, and a confrontation that ends with the Ustanak being drilled into a wall, Jake and Sherry finally step out into daylight with the sight of their rendezvous just over the horizon--though it is a destination that they won’t reach as they are cornered by a woman in blue (the same woman that provided Jake with a shot of the C-virus) and are knocked unconscious.
___________________________________________________________
Six months later finds Sherry and Jake held captive in a hospital staffed by Neo-Umbrella. For the past several months, the pair have undergone tests and experiments meant to strengthen the C-Virus (specifically by utilizing Jake’s blood). Additionally, Jake was subjected to hearing all about the atrocities his father committed and how he had wasted all of his supposed "gifts"(which leads to him feeling his father was a messed up freak--something that may have passed to him in a way due to his blood). He proceeded to cooperate without incident for these months in order to draw the staff into a false sense of security, waiting for the perfect moment to strike and set out on a search for Sherry.
When Jake and Sherry were finally reunited they had to make their escape from the Lanshiang facility, fighting their way through J’avos, tanks, and bombs before they finally managed to steal a motorcycle and left the compound. Free once again, the pair set out for their rendezvous with Derek C. Simmons, US national security advisor and Sherry’s boss. Before they could reach the contact point, however, they had yet another encounter with the Ustanak--as well as Agent Leon S. Kennedy and Agent Helena Harper, who revealed that Simmons was responsible for the outbreaks.
Despite finding it hard to believe her boss would do such things, and despite Jake reminding Sherry that they were supposed to avoid contact with anyone, Sherry tells Leon where they are meant to meet Simmons and agreed to meet him there to sort everything out. As they proceeded on their own, Sherry made Jake promise to run if what Leon said about Simmons was true--a promise he would later break. When Simmons betrayal proved true the pair made a run for safety, though that didn’t go as planned as they were captured by a group of J’avo and taken to an underwater facility.
Jake and Sherry wake up together, secured back to back in some strange device. There is seemingly no way out, until (unbeknownst to them at the time) Chris Redfield releases them upon finding the controls. The pair comes in contact with Chris and his partner Piers Nivans as they try to find their way out of the facility entirely. This meeting turns into a full out confrontation when Chris makes the smart decision to tell Jake he was the one to kill Wesker. This sends Jake into a fury, and he nearly shoots Chris point blank only to veer it just off to the side at the last second. He explained by saying: "There is more at stake than you and me." He vows that things are far from over with the two of them though.

After this confrontation settles, the group focuses on exiting the facility and this leads to them taking a set of platform elevators that circle around a giant chrysalid. When this chrysalid finally begins to break open and reveals the Haos BOW, Chris tells Jake and Sherry to go—a suggestion Jake readily takes, dragging Sherry along with him. The pair suffer a minor confrontation after this, with Sherry believing they shouldn’t just leave the two of them behind to what could only be certain death. Jake reminds her of their mission, of the importance of their job, and convinces her that they had to move on.
In the process of finding a true exit, the two of them end up in a maze of walkways situated over a vat of magma. What should have been a simply instance of navigating the catwalks became instantly more complicated with the arrival of the Ustanak—with the creature finally prepared to finish it’s hunt. Working together, and with Jake finally taking on the Ustanak in a hand-to-hand showdown, the pair manages to defeat the monster by sending it into the magma below.
Believing them free of their pursuer for good, Jake and Sherry locate a lift that would bring them to the surface at high speed. However, the Ustanak interrupts their efforts once again, surprisingly undefeated by even the magma. Jake and Sherry hastily climb the length of the lift and drop several layers of piping on the Ustanak, before they find a gun that would allow them a shot at the beast’s now exposed heart. Sherry makes an attempt, but her hands are unsteady. This leads to Jake lending his support and they take the shot together, finally killing the Ustanak once and for all.
Sometime following their escape, Jake is finally able to give a sample of his blood to Sherry so she can take it back to the labs in the US to be analyzed for a possible cure. He sits some distance from the air field on a motorbike, where he proceeds to text Sherry to let her know he decided to lower his asking price to a mere fifty dollars instead of fifty million. The scene fades as he drives off into the distance.
___________________________________________________________
At some unknown date in the future, Jake finds himself in a desert market place, situated in a back alley room. He’s waiting for something, which comes with a child frantically bursting into the room. Jake moves to survey the scene at a window, finding several BOWs storming the streets. He makes a move to go outside before turning back to the kid, stating that they had a deal. The child hands over a single red apple and Jake heads out the door. He’s asked if he’ll keep his word, to which he responds by whipping off a cloak he was covered in, raising a gun to aim at the BOWs now charging towards him. The scene ends with a final word from Jake: “Fair’s fair, kid.”
Personality:
Jake initially comes off as being a bit standoffish and selfish—basically he’s a bit of a dick. Money also seems to be his only concern. When he first met Sherry Birkin, his only concern was how much he was going to get paid—and when he discovered just why she needed him he only thought of how he could wring more money out of the situation. Considering how he’s been left alone (from his father’s abandonment to his mother’s death) it’s likely that money is the one thing he finds dependable enough to rely on and trust.
He is also incredibly brash and instinctive, running off this initial instinct first without thought. This is evident when he shoots an explosive tank near the Ustanak without giving Sherry any warning, meaning she could have easily been caught in the crossfire. This brash instinct bleeds into how verbal and quick-witted he can be. Add that to his standoffish personality and it results in him often being a sarcastic smart mouth—and it’s a mouth you can’t shut up regardless of the situation. In fact, when the Ustanak proceeds to follow Sherry and Jake to China, Jake says it makes him “more like an ex-girlfriend. Guy doesn’t know when to quit.” This smart mouth is also a profane one, in fact the game was given only so many instances in which the word “fuck” could be used and Jake used most of them. He has a habit of putting these words and sarcastic attitude to use against enemies in a taunting fashion—particularly against the Ustanak (or son of a bitch as Jake refers to him more often than not). Jake also has a smart mouth with authority, or people that have a perceived sense of authority. Piers taunts him following his confrontation with Chris, telling him it was good he didn’t actually shoot the other man or Piers would have had to take action—Jake proceeds to ask him if he ever “shuts the fuck up”.
Despite coming across as brash and aggressive, Jake is quick it say he is nothing like his father once he learns what kind of man his father was. He's ashamed of what his father had done, and there's some fear that part of what he was had passed down to him as well--that part of what his father was influenced the things he has done and the man he's become. It’s important to note that while he confronts Chris following the other man’s admittance to being the one to kill Wesker, he is not sympathizing with his father or defending him; instead he is confronting Chris over his reasons for killing Wesker in the first place (“Tell me. Were you just...following orders, or was it personal?”).
When it comes to his relationships to other people, Jake is often the instigator and proceeds to have conflicts with several people to put them at a distance. He’s obviously not to keen on Leon or Chris (or Helena and Piers for that matter). However, this isn’t just a defense to push people away—sometimes it comes down to Jake liking to get a rise out of people. He notices this is easy to do with Piers after the first time they meet. Jake made a comment that he’s not a concern for the BSAA unless someone pays him to be, a comment that gets a defensive response from Piers—and in response Jake makes several comments to him when they meet back up later (outright telling Chris he should “put a leash on that puppy.”).
However, these are not the only types of relationships Jake has. While his relationship with Sherry initially starts of this way, it’s obvious by the end of the game that he’s come to think more of her. He begins to become rather protective of her, pushing Leon back when he confronts her about Simmons and giving her several hands up. In fact, upon finding a means of escape from the Lanshiang facility Jake’s main concern was to find Sherry and to get her out of there as well. He also seems to feel a sense of empathy and likeness to Sherry due to their personal histories and the stigma they can carry from their fathers (though he hardly expresses this to her in a positive manner—in fact he pisses her off by bringing it up the way he did). After the game, it seems as though the pair planned to keep in some form of contact as well, judging by the fact both of them have the other’s number saved in their phone.
It’s obvious that, come the end of the game, Jake has grown somewhat from the selfish, money-hungry mercenary is initially makes himself out to be. While he demands an exorbitant amount of money for his blood, he contacts Sherry at the end of the game to say that he decides to lower his asking price to a mere fifty dollars. This suggests that he’s grown to be more concerned with helping people than the monetary gain he can get from providing aid. This is further emphasized with the bonus ending you receive from completing Ada’s file, where he takes on several BOWs at a child’s behest—all for a single apple. While he’s not completely removed from the person he was, his experiences throughout the game have begun to shape him into a new man.
Skills/Powers:
Being a mercenary (assumedly for a few years), Jake has some proficiency with firearms. He’s able to wield a handgun with ease and confidence, managing to detonate an explosive barrel from a decent distance with a single shot. During game play, he encounters machine guns, magnums, and shotguns (all of which he is able to use). He also has experience with motorbikes, able to take up one with considerable ease during game play and he even rides off on one in the ending cut scenes.
Jake’s main skill set is with hand-to-hand combat. He manages to string together heavy hitting combos, and can handle multiple targets at once, to a degree (seeing as a horde does finally manage to overwhelm him prior to imprisonment in the underwater facility). A number of his attacks are similar to those used by his father, which is a strange coincidence but his inherited strength suits the style well. His hits are extremely powerful, even managing to stagger the Ustanak —a feat that can only be done by high-caliber weapons or explosive devices. He even manages to momentarily defeat the monster in a hand-to-hand fight, pushing it off into a vat of magma. These displays against such a strong foe suggest that his strength may be super-human, though that has not been confirmed.
Gear:
• One Nine-Oh-Nine handgun fully loaded with one spare magazine (30 shots total)
• One flame grenade
• Tablet case with six tablets. The tablets are health items, made by combining herbs to create individual tablets. A green herb is one tablet, two green herbs are three tablets, a green and a red herb are six tablets, and three green herbs are six tablets. The case can hold upwards to 18 tablets (from recent experience on Mercenaries—I used them too often to figure out the max on single player). These can also be used as a quick restore for stamina (one hit fully restores this).
• One lighter.
• The clothing as it appears in his description.
Why do you want to play this character in this particular setting?
I believe that Jake would be a good fit in the setting considering he comes from a horror-genre game. I believe it will be interesting to see how he takes on challenges in the setting, especially beasts due to his use of hand-to-hand combat. I am especially interested to see how the setting will play on his interpersonal relationships--Will he revert to his standoffish, doesn't-trust-anyone attitude? Will he continue to grow and open up instead due to being forced to work together? I think exploring that potential to grow or revert will be very interesting.
Writing Samples:
[Sample 1 and Sample 2; Both are ongoing.]
Jake had been riding through the desert for days, ever since the crisis in China (and around the world) had been diverted and Sherry had taken off to return to the offices in D.C. For days it had been just him, his bike, and an open stretch of road. He was surprised he managed to go as far as he did on the spare change he scrounged up from odd jobs.
The open road had been a good change of pace, but that was soon to change. He could feel it, soon as he entered the town. Windows were boarded up, and people seemed scarce outside of the shadows he spotted darting from door to door as he took slow deliberate steps down the alleyways they called streets. It made the hair at the back of his neck stand on end, and his hand itched to reach for his gun. He had left his bike on the edge of town—there was nowhere near here to sell scrap, so it should be fine—but he felt exposed.
His eyes darted around before noticing a large brown sheet hanging off a broken stand. He grabbed it, wrapping it around himself as he proceeded forward. There—Out of the corner of his eye he spotted movement, a shadow dashing down a side street.
“Hey!” He called, not knowing what creatures his voice stirred from the darkness. He darted after the form, scanning the alley as he turned to corner. He didn’t have to look far, there was a small child ducking into a doorway and he followed. He didn’t give a crap about breaking in after the kid—he needed answers. He was greeted by a child wielding a stick; it would have made him laugh in any other situation.
“That stick isn’t going to do you any good kid. You want to tell me what’s going on in this town?” He asked, though his voice only seemed to make the child cower. He sighed before adding, in a softer tone, “I might be able to help.”
It was like that opened a dam, the kid going off at a frantic pace talking about people mysteriously going missing, large beasts creeping in the night—and sometimes in the day without a care but for where their next victim would be. BOWs, that’s all it could be judging from the beasts the kid described—and not just any BOWs, these had to be from exposure to the C-Virus.
“All right, all right. I can get rid of them…for a price.” He noticed the crestfallen look that took over the kid’s face, and he could almost predict that explanation that he had no money. In a town like this money had to be scarce. “You got anything to eat around here? Bread…fruit…an apple? That’ll be payment enough.”
That earned an eager nod, and he couldn’t even get out a warning to take care before the kid was dashing off again, likely in pursuit for his “payment.” If he wasn’t careful he’d turn into one of Redfield’s boy scout types—he had to stop doing things for free like this.

He has a habit of putting these words and sarcastic attitude to use against enemies in a taunting fashion—particularly against the Ustanak (or son of a bitch as Jake refers to him more often than not).
